Regarding What THe Constitution Means to Me And The Peculiar Patriot
We are thrilled to share the news that Heidi Schreck will take her boundary-breaking play, What The Constitution Means To Me to Broadway this spring.
Though the timing of the Broadway engagement means that the previously planned run of the play at Woolly is postponed, we are actively working with Heidi and the commercial producers to figure out how soon we can bring this amazing show back to Washington, DC, and to Woolly audiences. We will share updates as soon as we have them.
We are excited to announce that The Peculiar Patriot by Liza Jessie Peterson will be joining us this April as a replacement for What the Constitution Means to Me. This timely and urgently needed production will be presented in association with National Black Theatre and Hi-ARTS, who produced the World Premiere production in New York City in September 2017.
Liza Jessie Peterson’s compelling one-person show deftly unpacks the human impact of mass incarceration in America, tracing the pathway of systemic injustice through heartbreaking, relatable, and hilarious stories that will stay with you for long after you leave the theater. Time Out New York gives this production five stars, calling The Peculiar Patriot "a visual marvel and a masterful example of character creation."
The performance schedule and related events will be announced shortly. In the meantime, we look forward to seeing you for our special presentation of As Far as My Fingertips Take Me by Tania El Khoury, and for BLKS by Aziza Barnes this February.
