Pay What You Will
As part of our commitment to making sure that our theatre remains open and accessible to every member of our community, Woolly offers a handful of Pay-What-You-Will tickets to every single performance throughout the year. This is the evolution of a program we began in DC where the concept is simple: we perform the show, you tell us how much you’re going to pay for your ticket.
We will also continue on with the first two performances of every show being completely Pay-What-You-Will with tickets are sold both online and through the Woolly Mammoth Box Office, as well as online through the TodayTix app (available on iTunes, the Android Play store, etc.) and TodayTix website. (We moved to online ticket sales in 2017 in order to make Pay-What-You-Will performances more accessible to audience members who were unable to come wait in line at Woolly.)
For every other performance you can purchase those tickets directly on our website by selecting the PWYW seats. On the order screen you’ll have the option to adjust the price to what you want to pay.
The Pay-What-You-Will program is supported by JBG Cares, M&T Bank, the Nora Roberts Foundation, the Susan A. & Donald P. Babson Charitable Foundation, the Paul M. Angell Family Foundation, the Weissberg Foundation, and additional individual contributions, which provide the bridge capital that makes our ticket accessibility initiatives possible.
Here’s all the info you’ll need to know if you’re planning to attend a Pay-What-You-Will performance or purchase PWYW tickets:
HOW CAN I PURCHASE A TICKET?
There are two ways to purchase Pay-What-You-Will tickets for the first 2 performances of every show:
- PWYW tickets are available for purchase on our website or
- Via the TodayTix app and TodayTix website in the days leading up to the performance. We will announce via social media and email when they’ll go on sale. They’ll remain on sale online until 5 pm on the day of the performance (or until they’re sold out). If we still have tickets left, they will be sold at the box office on a first-come, first-served basis starting at 6 pm.
For all other performances with limited PWYW seats, you can purchase directly on our website. There are 28 per performance and are first come, first served. Select the PWYW seats (in red) on the seat map and then adjust the price to what you want to pay in the order screen.
WILL I GET IN?
We can’t make any guarantees, but historically, online Pay-What-You-Will tickets will sell out.
HOW MANY TICKETS CAN I BUY?
Two per person.
CAN I REALLY PAY WHATEVER I WANT?
We don’t give out free tickets, but we will accept your choice at any price. (Due to transaction costs, the minimum purchase price on TodayTix is $5 and on our website there is a $6 service fee.) Keep in mind, though, that the actual cost of the ticket you’ll be receiving is at minimum $35 and that Woolly Mammoth is a civic-profit organization.
ARE SEATS ASSIGNED?
Yes. For PWYW performances we hand out seats from the first row to the last row, first-come, first-served according to the time you placed the order. If you would like to be seated with your family or friends, please email firstname.lastname@example.org and we’ll do our best to seat you together.
For all other performances you can select your seats when you purchase from the designated PWYW zone.
