Jenny Lares
Born in the Philippines and raised in northeastern Maryland, Jenny is a writer and arts administrator. She was the first Asian American open mic host at Busboys and Poets and was the Founding Executive Director of Sulu DC, an arts organization for Asian American and Pacific Islander artists. Jenny took a longer-than-planned break from performing, and most recently collaborated on a musical concept album with support from the Peabody Conservatory at Johns Hopkins University. Last year she received her master’s degree in arts administration from Goucher College. Her major paper, “Looking for Our Own Stories: Asian American Representation and the Legacy of East West Players and Theater Mu” won the award for best paper. Earlier this year, she reclaimed her Philippine citizenship and is now a dual citizen of the US and the Philippines.
