The 2026 class of the Arts and Social Justice Fellowship invites you to “Sanctuary of Solace,” an art installation exploring themes of identity, home, safety, and connection. This multi-media experience is the class’s collective way to create connection in the face of the loneliness epidemic, a lack of third spaces, and disconnection due to technology.
The audience will have opportunities to share their reflections and engage in dialogue with the students and one another. Before the installation viewing, fellows will host a panel discussion on their collective artistic process, and share calls to action with the audience. Over six months, nine high school fellows engaged in study, discussion, and creative work at the intersection of arts and social change.
The fellowship centers youth leadership, young people’s visions of the future, and community-building in response to crisis. The program was created in 2021 through Strathmore and Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company’s co-presentation of Parable of the Sower by Octavia E. Butler, adapted by Toshi Reagon and Bernice Johnson Reagon.
